As I settled in to watch the movie “Sharks of the Corn”, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The title alone was enough to pique my curiosity, and boy oh boy, am I glad that it did.
The film follows a small group of friends who venture into a rural town in Nebraska for what they think will be a fun weekend getaway. But when they stumble upon an old farmhouse and some bizarre, otherworldly artifacts, they quickly realize that something isn’t quite right. Things take a turn for the worse when they discover that the farmhouse was built on top of an ancient burial ground – one that was used by a group of shark-worshipping cultists back in the day.
What follows is a heart-pounding thrill ride as our heroes try to outrun and outsmart the sharks (yes, you read that right – sharks) who are now wreaking havoc on the town. The action is intense, the suspense is palpable, and the moments of comic relief are perfectly timed.
The cast of “Sharks of the Corn” is truly impressive. We have Shannon Stockin as our leading lady, Rachel, who gives an incredibly nuanced performance that runs the gamut from fear to bravery to vulnerability. Tom Konkle also shines as Sheriff Royce, bringing depth and complexity to his role even amidst all the chaos.
One standout performance comes from Ford Austin as Old Joe, a seemingly harmless local who ends up being key to unlocking some of the film’s most chilling secrets. His scenes are equal parts creepy and captivating – I couldn’t look away even if I wanted to.

And speaking of price, it’s worth noting that “Sharks of the Corn” was made on a shoestring budget – just $25,000, according to some reports. That makes its achievements all the more impressive – this is truly a labor of love from everyone involved.
The movie has already garnered quite a bit of buzz in horror circles, with some critics hailing it as a new cult classic in the making. It’s not hard to see why – “Sharks of the Corn” is an absolute blast from start to finish.
